A screenshot has been found in the recent iOS 5 version (beta 5) which in turn reveals that text to speech is expected to come in the final version of iOS 5. Last month some screenshots of a configuration screen that allows you turn the on and off voice assistant. Now we have another screenshot which shows how to turn on voice to text from an application. This is going to another technology breakthrough by Apple.
How to Activate this feature.
As for the screenshot, it could not be more simple. On the keyboard there is a microphone icon which is very obvious, when you click it a second screen is displayed as shown in the picture. This allows you to talk on the phone, and at the same time voice is translated or converted into a written text and inserted into the text field. This innovation by Apple, this voice to text only available for the iPhone and iPod touch but customers will be more than happy to find such a new thing installed in their devices. This is a beta version we’re talking and things change all the time before the final release but hopefully towards the positive side instead of going down. If people find nothing or something very less as compared to what they saw in rumors, it really hurts the feelings and Apple must take care of providing more value or at least equal to what people are hearing.
This could be a really a killer feature of iOS 5, when it will be launched in September. So far converting speech into the text seems something out of this World. Everyone would like to see a way to talk with his iPhone without having to press any buttons. It has been done before by using a magic word. A specific word is set to activate the phone. The downside of this new feature is battery life, the iPhone should be in a state all the time listening, absorbing the battery more than previous versions. Hopefully Apple will also counter this as well because this point needs to be addressed and a stronger battery with iPhone 5G will light up the things more.
