It is hard to believe some that people around the world would be anxious to keep cobras as pets. But this is true as there is no dearth of crazy persons. Cobras are one of the most dangerous animals in the world. They can be as long as 19 feet and many of their kinds are capable of throwing the venom up to 6 feet at their victim. An average cobra victim can meet death within minutes of the bite by this poisonous creature. Even then some people love to take the risk and keep the cobras as their pets. A man living in Toronto was found to be keeping a cobra as pet. The matter surfaced only when he reported to police that his pet cobra has escaped. The other residents of the building were so panicked that they vacated their apartments and did not reoccupy them from about five months. Though the cobra was never recaptured but the man was sentenced to one year imprisonment in jail apart from a fine of $ 17,000 in 2007. Similarly in 2009 a German youth reported that his pet cobra has disappeared. The authorities had to rip apart the walls and floors of the owner but could not find the cobra. However the person was fined $134,000 for his act. Not only the common people but also actor like Nicolas Cage was reported to have kept two cobras.

Skunks

If I tell you that some people like to keep the skunks as pets you will consider it as joke of the year. But believe it or not it is very common to find pet skunks in the US, Canada and Mexico which may be thousands in number. The most offensive thing about the skunks is the bad smell sprayed by them. As a practice, the private breeders who sell the skunks remove the anal-scent glands from the animals when they are about four weeks of age. Those who keep the skunks as pets are of the opinion that the animal is very intelligent, docile and loving. They can be groomed like pet dogs and cats and are appropriate for people with chances of allergy.

Tarantulas are typical spiders that could never be thought as a pet. A large number have a natural fear of spiders but some species like Toed Tarantulas are considered quite docile and harmless. One can always hold these in the hand comfortably. Those who keep them as pets say that the insects need modest feeding and can live comfortably in normal environment.
