The English Defense League (EDL) is poised to fuel the interfaith confrontation in UK

A UK-based extremist organization English Defense League (EDL) has invited the American pastor Terry Jones to address a rally in Luton, London in February 2011. Terry Jones who is heading a small church in Florida received  world wide condemnation from the peace seekers for his intentions to burn copies of the holy Qur’an on 11 September 2010. The pastor retreated from his ugly designs under the pressure from the US government and the protests by the anti-extremist groups.

Reportedly Terry Jones will speak against Islam during his planned address in February. This will be followed by country-wide protests by the EDL that may turn violent. Obviously the opponent extremist groups may also flex their muscles. The peace seekers and anti-extremist groups in Britain have stressed on the government to ban the entry of Terry Jones. The government of UK is seriously thinking about it.

Since its inception the EDL is contributing negatively to the cause of peace and interfaith harmony in UK. The protests launched by this organization in the past had never remained peaceful. Such extremist behavior will further aggravate the situation in the country. The violence has never helped to curb the extremist tendencies. It rather fuels the fire of hatred, at the peril of peace only.

Say 'NO' to extremism in any form

The UK has a Muslim population of about 62 million that constitutes less than 3 % of the total population.  All of them are not extremists. An over whelming population of 97 % do not need to form groups and organizations to counter a small fraction. The Britons are a civilized and peace-loving people with great history of democracy and civil liberties. The heterogeneous population has been living peacefully in the country since ages. The Britons must not scum to the nefarious designs of a handful of extremists, rather put in their best to neutralize such outfits. This is the only way to maintain a semblance of peace and harmony in the country.
